Why we check this
We check this because unresolved technical issues can silently block Google from crawling, rendering or indexing your pages at all — no amount of good content fixes a page search engines can't reach in the first place.
How it's checked in your audit
In your seoaudits.ie audit, this is checked as part of the Technical SEO pillar, using crawl data, log files and manual verification.
A common issue we see
Canonical tags that point to the wrong protocol or subdomain — an http or www version, say — tell Google to consolidate signals to a URL that isn't the one actually serving traffic. It's exactly the issue we found (and fixed) on this site's own checklist pages.
How to fix it
Make sure every canonical tag is self-referential, uses the final https/non-www format your site actually resolves to, and matches exactly on protocol, trailing slash and case.
